Implementing Wind Energy Projects – Michael in the NRW Team
German Version

Michael
What are your responsibilities at ABO Energy and what did you study to get there?
I work as a project manager for wind energy projects in the North Rhine-Westphalia team. My main task is to identify potential sites for wind energy generation, establish relationships with landowners and local stakeholders, and — after securing land use agreements — develop the project through to construction readiness. My studies in geography and political science help me a lot, as they first introduced me to renewable energies, spatial planning, and political procedures.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I especially enjoy the variety in my work—a mix of direct, personal contact with local communities, technical and ecological assessments, and the focused collaboration with our technical departments to bring the projects to completion. Each week brings new challenges and insights, which keeps things exciting and meaningful.
Is there a project that was particularly formative for you?
Of course, I’ll always remember my first completed project in the Münsterland region — the Everswinkel wind farm — which went into operation in 2024 after six years of planning and preparation.
It was the first time I was fully responsible for a project from start to finish, and I gained valuable experience in every phase of the process.
Tell us about ABO Energy’s company culture — what stands out to you?
What I’ve appreciated consistently since 2016 is the friendly and collaborative atmosphere across all departments at ABO. In the beginning, I could always turn to helpful colleagues whenever I had questions. Now I enjoy sharing my knowledge with many new team members. You can always get a tip on who to talk to about any topic — so you never feel alone with your challenges.
I also really value the flexible workplace concept, which allows me to work from any office location when I’m already nearby for project work. It helps maintain strong personal connections with colleagues as well.
