Sophie has been working since April 2024 as a Construction Project Manager at ABO Energy. In her role, she oversees wind farm projects from construction preparation to commissioning. She has also had the opportunity to gain experience beyond the wind sector, for example, by supporting a hydrogen filling station project.
Behind the Scenes: Sophie on Her Work in Wind Farm Construction at ABO Energy
German Version

Sophie
Do you have a typical workday?
The only thing typical is that no day is the same – and that’s exactly what makes the job so exciting for me. I regularly switch between working in the office, attending on-site appointments, and coordinating with internal and external partners. The different phases of a project also provide a lot of variety: During the construction phase, the focus is mainly on tenders, contract awards, coordinating contractors, and ongoing coordination. In the early planning phase, the emphasis is more on the basic design of the wind farm. At this stage, for example, we determine cable routes and plan how the large components can later be transported to the construction site.
What I find particularly exciting is the detailed planning of wind farm layouts – thinking through, shifting, comparing, and optimizing different versions together as a team. It sometimes feels like solving a technical puzzle. I’m already looking forward to one day seeing the result of this work on site.
What does it mean to you personally to help build a wind farm?
I’ve always been fascinated by the wind turbines themselves – both their technical complexity and the way they are built, their sheer size, and the fact that they generate green electricity. Being actively involved today in the planning and implementation of entire wind farms means I get to pursue this fascination and at the same time make a real contribution to the energy transition.
What do you see as the greatest strength of your construction team?
Our team thrives on exchange. Since every project is different, everyone brings their own experience, which benefits us all. We have a great culture of learning from one another – open, collegial, and always solution-oriented. There is also a strong sense of helpfulness across teams. No matter the question or problem, there’s always a helping hand. The positive team spirit and the great working atmosphere are also some of the reasons why I enjoy my work here so much.
What tip would you give someone who wants to apply to ABO Energy?
ABO Energy brings together many different areas – such as construction, finance, marketing, and planning – with the goal of jointly developing a wind farm (or PV, battery, etc.). If you’re someone who wants to help shape things, take on responsibility, and find creative solutions to complex challenges, then this is the right place for you. ABO Energy has an open atmosphere – those who contribute ideas and show initiative are definitely heard.
