Enabling the Energy Transition – Alex on His Work as a Project Developer

What do you love the most about your job?
What excites me the most is the goal itself: the completed wind farm!
The thought that one day I’ll be able to say – this wind farm, we built it. That’s our contribution!
And when it comes to my favorite part of the job, it’s definitely being out in the field with the construction department. That’s where we plan how to actually realize the wind farm: How do we transport the rotor blades to the site? Which roads need upgrading? How do we get a 200-meter-high crane to the location while minimizing the impact on nature?
That’s usually the moment I think – this is incredible!
How important are topics like sustainability and the energy transition in your daily work?
They play a huge role!
I believe every generation has its own challenges – and the greatest challenge of our generation is climate change. That’s why the energy transition is a key task for our society.
If one day we can look back and say – we did it – I want to be able to say: I was part of that. I helped make it happen.
That really drives me.What is it to work in your team?
Teamwork within the Hessen team is excellent – I’m really happy with it.
We’re all wind project managers, which means everyone is responsible for their own projects and faces their own challenges. But more often than not, someone on the team has dealt with a similar issue before – or has a helpful document, a note, or a good idea to share.
In short: You work independently on your projects – but you’re never truly alone.
To give a quick example: Two weeks ago, we had a team outing that ended with a dinner at my place – a small highlight in the everyday routine.
How would you describe our company culture – what makes it special?
What makes it special for me is the trust that’s placed in me and my colleagues.
There’s a strong belief that project managers take ownership of their projects and manage them responsibly. Of course, my team lead is always up to date on what’s going on – but more to support me than to supervise me.
And that’s also how most decisions are made – at a low hierarchy level. If I had to guess, I’d say 90% of the key decisions in my projects are made between my team lead and me.
That sense of truly being able to make a difference is really important to me – and it’s something I really value in my work here.
