What are your responsibilities at ABO Energy, and what did you study to prepare for this role?
I work as a team leader in project and business development for wind energy in Germany, specifically for the state of Baden-Württemberg. I support several project managers with overseeing and delivering wind energy projects in the “Ländle” (a local nickname for Baden-Württemberg). I studied Geography at both Bachelor’s and Master’s level in Heidelberg.
What achievement in your work are you particularly proud of?
The commissioning of the Dörnbach wind farm in 2024. I was responsible for this project in my previous role as project manager for Rhineland-Palatinate. Recording the first kilowatt-hour fed into the grid was a very special moment – and it wouldn’t have been possible without the great team spirit at ABO Energy.
Is there a project that was especially formative for you?
Also during my time as a project manager: the development of the extension to the existing Dittelsheim-Heßloch II wind farm in Rheinhessen. Due to the very fragmented ownership structure locally, I had to do quite a bit of persuading with several landowners. Luckily, thanks to the regional setting, there was often a bottle of wine to celebrate successful negotiations.
Which skills and qualities do you think are essential for success in project development at ABO Energy?
I would say above all, courage and team spirit. Projects of this scale can only be delivered with a determined, can-do attitude, courage (including the willingness to make mistakes if necessary), and by working closely as a team with our experts from the various specialist departments.
